Christian Education

Our ministry of Christian Education is broad and includes Sunday School, adult education, nursery, preschool, youth, vacation Bible school, campership scholarships and family activities.
The centerpiece of our Christian Education program is our Sunday School. Sunday School is critical to our children deepening their faith and growing in their commitment to Christ. We have nursery care available during Sunday Services for children to age 3. The Primary Class includes children aged 4 through grade 2. The Junior Class includes children in grades 3, 4 and 5. The Junior High Class includes children in grades 6, 7 and 8. The Senior High Class includes students in grades 9 through 12.
Each class is staffed by two teachers at all times who all have received Safe Child Training. Christian Education Director Jim Essex ensures that every classroom and teacher are prepared for each lesson each Sunday in our “Feasting on the Word” curriculum.

Special activities held by and for the children include planning and cooking for special celebrations (such as the Senior Luncheons), reading scripture, delivering the sermon on Children’s Sunday, participating in Bible Olympics. There is also a very active music program available involving: Choir, Chimes, and Bells.
The children and youth of the Church participate in Baptism Classes when they are age 11-13. Pastor Malone holds a special class for baptism usually in May. 5.
Learning for all ages occurs during Adult Classes or Bible Study in small groups. Such special sessions occur over 3-6 week periods. During the summer, Pastor Malone held a series called “Summer Conversations” after Fellowship Café to discuss a variety of topics selected by participants.

Attending a Baptist Camp brings children into a special environment to learn about Jesus. We are blessed to use Camp Canonicus, a jewel of the American Baptist Churches of Rhode Island. We provide scholarships in the form of paying the deposit for a child to attend Camp Canonicus or paying the cost in full for those with financial hardship. To learn more, contact Jim Essex or any member of the Board of Christian Education.
We call our Vacation Bible School “Kid’s Week” to stress that we are focused on the kids having fun and learning more about Jesus. In 2015, the theme of “Kid’s Week” was Finding Jesus in Matthew 25. We had 34 children (age 4 to 17) participating in Kid’s Week and a half dozen adults.
We have two active youth groups, one for Junior High Youth and one for Senior High Youth. Each group is lead by Pastor Malone and another adult. They meet monthly during the academic year. In addition to talk sessions on topics chosen by the youth, we take field trips. In the summer of 2015, six senior high and two adults hiked (Jan to get name of the mountains from Jonathan) in the Adirondacks for a week.

We are always looking for help to run our activities. Please consider what your personal ministry might be for our Christian Education program. Each year we have been blessed to see our “Kids Week” program grow. We feel it is a testimony of our family of faith environment.
